Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds

We’ve heard so much of the Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds. The slide-out screen looks sturdy, and it’s capable of
swiveling 30 degrees forward and any steps in between. The tablet isn’t
going to replace a Wacom anytime soon, but it’ll get the job done in a
pinch. The laptop itself is rather bulky, but you come to expect it with the amount of features packed in.

But is the total package any good? Head on over to Engadget Mobile for the scoop on the Krave ZN4!

RIM clears up BlackBerry Storm OS situation

Posted in Gadgets, Mobiles on November 25th, 2008 by sunchandy – Be the first to comment

Well, it looks it looks like we can put the first Storm conspiracy theory to rest, as RIM has now come out and said that the supposed delay-causing Storm OS glitch was, in fact, more of a sticker glitch, and that there was never such a thing as an OS version 4.7.0.82. As you may recall, the rumors started flying when some Storms started showing up with a sticker indicating the OS version as 4.7.0.82, while the device itself showed that the OS was version 4.7.0.65. That prompted some to speculate that the OS had to be downgraded at the last minute, prompting the delay, but according to RIM, the problem was simply that “several thousand” boxes were printed with the incorrect version number, which then had to be covered up with the proper sticker. Unfortunately, RIM didn’t have anything to say about an actual update for the OS, which could certainly use a little patching up of its own.

Production Tesla Roadster gets glorious hands-on: stifle your envy, please

Here at Engadget, we hold a special place in our hearts for Mr. Jason Calacanis, but regardless of whose name is on the pink slip, there’s no denying that the vehicle you’re peering at above just struck all sorts of jealousy in your chest. This Very Orange (seriously) Tesla Roadster is one of the very first to be produced with the revamped drivetrain, and according to the lucky (lucky!) souls over at AutoblogGreen who were able to give it a go, the “new, higher torque motor immediately made its presence felt.” All that aside, we know you’re here for the photos, so head on down to the read link when you’ve got ten or so free minutes to shuffle through. Let’s just say you’ll have a new appreciation for one Drew Phillips (photographer) when you’re done treating your retinas.

zzzPhone now shipping with Android? T-Mobile doesn’t seem terribly concerned

Posted in Gadgets, Google, Mobiles on November 25th, 2008 by sunchandy – Be the first to comment

Those crazy zzzPhone kids are at it again, and this time they’re jumping on the open handset bandwagon. Sure, the whole thing has always seemed excessively shady, and as far as we can tell no one has ever received a one of these devices, but apparently the made-to-order cellphone is now “shipping” with Android. If the optional TV tuner, 100,000 candlepower flashlight, or solid gold case (decked out with one karat diamonds) wasn’t enough to lure you in, maybe this new development will seal the deal for you. Of course we’re dying to put the modular mobile boom box attachment through its paces, but not so much that we’ll be sending our hard earned cash over to the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone any time soon.

Nokia’s QWERTY slider E75 spotted in the wild again

Posted in Gadgets, Mobiles on November 25th, 2008 by sunchandy – Be the first to comment

In the “form factors Nokia hasn’t fully explored, but probably should” bucket, side-sliding QWERTY candybars ranks pretty dang high on the list, so we’re delighted to see that — as far as we can tell, anyway — Espoo’s still hard at work banging out the details of its E75. We’re told to expect WiFi (naturally), a 3.2-megapixel camera, and a 2.4-inch display, but more importantly, you’ve got a generous keyboard that should give the S740 a serious run for its money. We’re a bit concerned about usability on a totally flush keyboard like this (E90 anyone?), but hey, maybe that’s the reason it hasn’t been announced yet, right?

BlackBerry Storm's clickable screen (and the rest of it) dissected, exposed

So you’ve read our extensive BlackBerry Storm review and, despite feeling disappointment about it not living up to the hype, can’t help but wonder just what makes the thing tick click. While we were a bit too squeamish to rip one of ours apart and find out, phoneWreck felt no qualms about turning this week’s hottest handset into a pile of bits, exposing (among numerous other things) the Qualcomm MSM7600 processor that’s blamed for the phone’s sluggish performance. As to how the clicky screen works, it’s rather simple: just a plate behind the display (pictured above) with a dimple to push a button on a circuit board. Never dissect your heroes, kids; it just takes the mystery out of life.
